Hi, we're Beyond Baggage.
Beyond Baggage started because we got tired of travel blogs that all sound the same. You know the ones, the posts that tell you to "pack light" and "try the local food" without ever mentioning which neighborhood in Lisbon actually has the good pastéis de nata, or how much a SIM card really costs at Rome Fiumicino versus a kiosk in Trastevere. We wanted a travel site that talked to us like a friend who'd actually been there, not a press release dressed up as advice.
So we built one.
What we're about
Our mission is simple: help travelers from the US, Australia, and Europe explore smarter. That means fewer tourist traps, fewer overpriced booking mistakes, and more of the small, specific details that turn a decent trip into one you'll still talk about five years later. We want you to feel prepared without feeling over-planned, and confident enough to wander off the map when the moment hits.
We cover the stuff that actually matters on the road:
- Destination guides for cities and countries we've spent real time in
- Budget travel tips, including the numbers, not just "save money by cooking"
- Solo travel advice for first-timers and seasoned loners alike
- Travel gear reviews we paid for ourselves and actually used
- Food and culinary guides, from street stalls to slow dinners
- Sustainable travel that goes beyond carrying a reusable water bottle
- Digital nomad content for remote workers picking their next base
If you're a weekend escapist from Sydney, a gap-year backpacker from Berlin, a family planning two weeks in Japan, or someone working from cafés in Mexico City, there's something here for you.
What makes us different
Most travel content online is rewritten from other travel content. We do it the slow way. Every guide comes from somewhere we've stayed, eaten, gotten lost in, or had a mild panic attack at a train station in. When we recommend a hostel, it's because we slept there. When we skip something popular, we'll tell you why. No affiliate fluff dressed up as a "top 10," no AI-generated city guides stitched together from Wikipedia.
We believe in honest advice over hype, specific tips over vague suggestions, and real experiences over recycled listicles. If a place disappointed us, we'll say so. If a $4 bowl of noodles beat a $40 tasting menu, you'll hear about it.
Come travel with us
If any of this sounds like your kind of travel, stick around. Bookmark the site, subscribe to the newsletter for monthly destination breakdowns and gear deals we'd actually buy, and follow along on social for the in-between moments that don't make it into the guides.
Got a question, a tip, or a place we should cover next? Send it over. We read everything.
See you out there.
